Water restored in Khayelitsha

The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has successfully restored water supply to all areas in Khayelitsha following the completion of complex emergency valve repairs.

Operational teams spent Wednesday, 9 July, actively opening valves across the network to ensure that the system is fully recharged. Water supply has returned to all previously affected areas in Khayelitsha including Harare, Kuyasa, Monwabisi Park, New Monwabisi and Ilitha Park.
 
‘Although some areas may still experience low water pressure, this is expected to improve as the system stabilises and pressure builds up fully. Should water pressure not improve overnight, residents are kindly requested to log a service request so the teams can attend to it promptly.

‘The City sincerely thanks residents for their patience and understanding during this extended disruption,’ said Councillor Zahid Badroodien, Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation.

The City, together with the ward councillors, are monitoring the situation closely to ensure no further disruptions to the water supply. Please report any ongoing 'no water' complaints through the service request portal:

Important advice to residents:
• After supply is restored, water may appear discoloured. This is normal. Allow it to run until clear; the water is safe to drink.
• Any trapped air in the pipelines will dissipate as water flows through.
• Please consider collecting initial discoloured water for secondary use, such as flushing toilets or cleaning.
